About John Boland

John was head of the Environmental Planning & Local Government Group until shortly before his retirement as a Director of the firm in 2015.

Prior to his retirement John had established an extensive practice advising a large number of Local Councils across NSW on all aspects of local government and related law particularly in the areas of governance, property (sales, purchases, leasing, easements and development), tendering, waste collection and disposal contracts and general contract issues. Indeed John has been the author in collaboration with waste consultants and the EPA of the Model Waste Collection Tendering Package extensively used by Councils in NSW.

John was a Law Society Accredited Specialist in both Property and Business Law for over 20 years prior to surrendering such accreditations shortly before his retirement as a Director of the firm.

Over his 50 years in private practice John also established a substantial private client practice providing a broad range of commercial and property advice. His clients included major corporations, property developers and prominent high net worth individuals. He also acted for a number 0f NSW Government Departments (and Councils) and on numerous “public/private” partnerships.

John is a Life Member of the Law Society of New South Wales and provides consultancy and mentoring services to clients of the firm and its staff.

This is my first time in transacting with Matthewsfolbigg which I did while purchasing a property. My dealings were mainly with Jeannette Limbo who went above and beyond any other solicitor that I have used when transacting for a property. At every stage I was contacted by Jeanette to update me personally and follow up with an email. She is unbeleivably pleasant, easy to work with, meticulous and takes her work to heart. As an example, our settlement was to take place at 2:30 on the Friday. It was imperative that we settle on Friday but we hit a technical snag at our bank. Jeanette spent the whole day on the phone with the banks and the other solicitor to try to get things done and stayed after work on a Friday until we finally settled. It was really nice to see how happy Jeannette was when it was done, we were definately not a number. We were a person who needed the job done.
